We have found with Windows 8 mentioned you must open WSR when the computer starts. You can set WSR to open automatically with Windows 8 in Speech Properties. It will also help if you open Notepad first. Then you can just say Switch to Notepad.

how do i get it to open "notepad" [part of windows 8]?
