The following update for what is new in Windows Speech Recognition for the new Windows 7 is courtesy of Eric Brown.
Now that the Beta of Windows 7 is out, it’s time to talk about the improvements and new features in Windows Speech Recognition. For Windows 7, we focused primarily on improving the user experience and removing the “rough spots” that we did not have time to fix in Vista. First and foremost, we focused on performance.
Second, we focused on usability.
Third, we looked at accuracy.
Lastly, we did a few tweaks to the recognizer. In Vista, 3rd party applications couldn’t tell whether the shared recognizer was ON or SLEEPing. For Win7, there are new APIs that expose SLEEP mode. |

Hello to all the moderators and users too, my name is andy t and I have been meaning to join for a long time and now I have finally done it so hello to all! My first question might have already been asked and answered so I apologise if it has but I want to know this: - Will there be a way or a patch of some sort to bring all the improvements in Windows Speech Recognition that is in Windows 7 into Windows Vista? If not, it seems such a shame that because I purchased Vista I am being penalised for not waiting for windows 7 nor getting the improvements it has. Just to put you in the picture, I am a quadriplegic and being disabled I had to raise the money for my computer complete with its Vista operating system from a Charity. To buy a completely new operating system such as windows 7 would cost me round about £ 450.00. Surely, just like the Dragon Naturally Speaking programmes, there must be some way of updating or upgrading each improvement to WSR when they come out either within the same OS or within every single new one such as windows 7? Please tell me that you can and if not, will it make that much difference to Vistas WSR in general? For instance, I find mine quite accurate already; will it be even more accurate in windows 7? Cheers andy t |
